Madeline Brendle, PhD
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Madeline is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Pneuma Science. Her work focuses on the safety, clinical effects, and healthcare costs of ketamine and psychedelics. She is particularly interested in evaluating these outcomes among women during the perinatal period. Madeline holds a BA in Neuroscience and an MPH in Healthcare Management from Boston University, as well as a PhD in Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research and Health Policy from The University of Utah. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at The University of Texas at Austin.

Omer Syed, MSc
Senior Research Associate
Omer is a Senior Research Associate at Pneuma Science, with a background in pre-clinical, clinical, and translational research. His work focuses on the safety, feasibility, and effectiveness of ketamine, MDMA, and other psychedelics in people with serious mental illness, as well as the underlying mechanisms and predictors of therapeutic response. He has a particular interest in microdosing. Omer holds a BSc in Biology and an MSc in Medical Science from the University of Toronto, where he is currently pursuing a PhD.

Ella van Beers, MSc
Senior Research Associate
Ella is a Senior Research Associate at Pneuma Science. Her work focuses on the safety and therapeutic potential of psychedelics for adults with eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Currently, she is helping conduct an internationally-sponsored observational study on group-based psilocybin for trauma-exposed police officers. Ella is also a Research Psychologist at the Novarum Center for Eating Disorders and Obesity, and a PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

Leo Smart, BS, EMT
Research Associate
Leo is a Research Associate at Pneuma Science, where he investigates the transdiagnostic potential of ketamine and psychedelics for severe mental illness. He is currently leading a pilot study on the safety and therapeutic effects of LSD in adults with borderline personality disorder (BPD), and supporting an international study on psilocybin with group psychological support for trauma-exposed police officers. Outside of the lab, Leo works as a licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at The University of Utah.

Maya Seale, BS
Research Associate
Maya is a Research Associate at Pneuma Science, with a background in cognitive science and artificial intelligence (AI). As a white, able-bodied woman of trans experience, and a person living with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), she is passionate about helping birth a kinder, more inclusive world through psychedelic therapy and plant medicine. Maya is particularly interested in group- and community-based frameworks that echo the traditional ceremonial use of psychedelics in many Indigenous cultures, where collective rituals and communal healing are central to psychosocial well-being.

Marika Del Motte, MSc
Research Associate
Marika (Mia) is a Research Associate at Pneuma Science, where she investigates psilocybin and ibogaine for trauma- and stressor-related disorders. She holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, and an MSc in Neuropsychology from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Mia is also a Senior Clinical Research Associate at Baylor College of Medicine, where she is contributing to the first state-funded trial on psilocybin-assisted therapy for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Valentyn Sobolenko, BSc
Research Associate
Valentyn (Val) is a Research Associate at Pneuma Science, where he investigates the mechanisms, safety, and therapeutic effects of psychedelics for mental and physical health conditions. He is particularly interested in ketamine- and MDMA-assisted therapy for treating borderline personality disorder (BPD), and aims to work with regulatory agencies to advance public education, decriminalization efforts, and responsible use of psychedelics. Val is also a Research Analyst at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Canada.

Danielle Brocklebank
Research Assistant
Danielle is a Research Assistant at Pneuma Science. Her work focuses on the clinical use of psychedelics to reduce symptoms of eating disorders and body dysmorphia, as well as psychiatric comorbidities, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). She is particularly interested in applications for binge eating disorder (BED). Danielle holds a BSc in Psychological and Behavioral Sciences and an MPhil in Psychiatry from the University of Cambridge in England, and hopes to pursue a PhD in a related field to advance her studies.

Bianca Watt
Research Assistant
Bianca is a Research Assistant at Pneuma Science. Her work explores altered states of consciousness and transdiagnostic models of psychedelic-assisted therapy for a range of neuropsychiatric disorders, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and substance abuse. She is particularly interested in community-based frameworks and therapeutic applications for military veterans, first-responders, and gender-diverse individuals.

Ryan Khan, BSc
Research Associate
Ryan is a Research Associate at Pneuma Science. His work focuses on the potential of psychedelics and indigenous plant medicines, such as 5-MeO-DMT and ayahuasca, to help individuals live happier, healthier, and more socially connected lives. He is particularly interested in community-based models of psychedelic therapy and their role in fostering individual transformation and collective healing. Previously, Ryan studied psychedelic-assisted facilitation at the Synthesis Institute under Maestro José Sánchez.
